Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has commissioned 20 new electric buses at the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, expanding the Abia Green Shuttle fleet to 40 buses.
The new buses fulfil the commitment made when the first batch of 20 was launched on December 23, 2025. The expansion is part of the administration’s drive to modernise public transportation and improve mobility across the state.
Governor Otti said an efficient transport system connects people to jobs, businesses, and education. He noted that electric buses would help reduce operational costs and emissions while supporting a cleaner and more sustainable transport system.
The governor highlighted accessibility features in the new buses, including expanded cargo capacity and integrated facilities for Persons with Disabilities, PWDs.
Otti also announced stricter enforcement of traffic laws with zero tolerance for reckless driving and overloading.
He said the Abia State Road Traffic and Safety Management Agency, ARTSMA, and the Harmonised Task Force would now operate until 10 p.m. daily, including weekends.
He warned against vandalism of government assets and appealed to residents to pay taxes to enable continued investment in infrastructure.
