At least eight individuals have signified interest in contesting for the Rivers State governorship election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party has also commended former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi for picking the presidential nomination form on the ADC platform.
Amaechi previously served as Minister of Transportation under the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the state ADC chairman-elect, the party is witnessing an unprecedented surge in political interest and participation as the 2027 elections draw closer.
He described the development as a clear indication that ADC has rapidly become the preferred political platform for credible leadership and progressive governance.
The chairman-elect noted that Amaechi’s formal declaration to contest for the presidency on ADC’s ticket marks a major milestone in the party’s growing national momentum.
In Rivers State, the level of interest generated has been extraordinary, with no fewer than eight prominent individuals already indicating interest in the governorship race.
Those who have shown willingness to contest include former public office holders, technocrats, accomplished professionals, and respected private sector operators.
Among the aspirants are a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, a former member of the House of Representatives, and a former Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority.
Others include another former House of Representatives member and former Chairman of NIMASA, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation, a former Chief Medical Director of UPTH, a renowned architect, and several successful entrepreneurs.
The party chairman further revealed that several respected individuals have also expressed interest in contesting for Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly positions across the state.
He stated that the development sends a clear message that ADC is no longer viewed as an alternative party but as one to beat.
The party is increasingly seen as the vehicle for the future, representing a convergence of experience, competence, credibility, youth energy, and grassroots belief in a new political direction for Rivers State and Nigeria.
The ADC leadership in Rivers State reaffirmed its commitment to transparent processes, internal democracy, peaceful engagement, and issue-based politics as preparations intensify toward the 2027 elections.
