The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old housewife for allegedly attempting to murder her husband by putting poison in his meal in Gwamma Village, Bauchi LGA.
The Command said the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 12, 2026, at about 3:15 p.m. The couple had reportedly been married for about 40 days.
A distress call was received at about 7:40 p.m., after which officers from ‘C’ Division responded. The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is receiving treatment and said to be in stable condition.
Police said the suspect made a confessional statement during interrogation. An empty bottle suspected to have contained poison and remnants of the meal were recovered as exhibits.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The suspect is expected to be charged to court on completion of investigations.
