The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland has publicly distanced itself from individuals and organisations promoting division, religious intolerance, and extremist ideologies.
In a joint statement released in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the regional Islamic apex body explicitly declared that it does not recognise or affiliate with any entities parading themselves as extensions or representatives of the League.
The leadership emphasized that any group or individual spreading teachings that promote hatred, discord, or ideologies contrary to the Qur’an and Sunnah cannot speak on its behalf.
The official disclaimer was signed by top Islamic clerics across the South-West region, including League President and Chief Imam of Ekiti State Jamiu Kewulere, alongside the Chief Imams of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, and Ondo states, and representatives from the Lagos religious leadership.
The council stated that since its establishment in 1964, it has remained committed to Islamic unity, moderation, and peaceful coexistence. The religious leaders urged the Muslim Ummah and the general public to verify all organizational claims through the officially recognized leadership structures of the League and to ignore unauthorized persons acting outside its constitution.
