The Yobe State Government has dismissed a rumor circulating that Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents have issued a vacation notice to some communities in Gujba Local Government Area of the state.

Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), Special Adviser on Security Matters, stated this after the state security council meeting, chaired by Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Gubana in Damaturu on Wednesday.

Abdulsalam assured residents that no such threat exists and urged them to continue their normal activities without fear.

“The government, in collaboration with security agencies, remains committed to safeguarding all communities.

“There is no credible intelligence suggesting that Boko Haram has issued any eviction notice to residents of Gujba or any other part of the state,” he said.

He described the rumor as baseless and unfounded, reassuring citizens of its commitment to protecting lives and property.

“We haven’t heard from any of the village heads or community leaders who were given an ultimatum by Boko Haram to vacate their areas.

“However, since last Saturday, we have embarked on confidence-building patrols along the general area of Katarko, Goniri, Gujba, Buni-Yadi, and surrounding communities,” he said.

According to him, the essence of the confidence-building patrols is to give the local communities confidence and assurance that they were not alone, as the government was with them.

The SA urged citizens to disregard the rumor and go about their daily activities without fear, as security agencies were working tirelessly to safeguard the state

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Osun, reaffirmed security agencies’ commitment to maintaining peace and order during and beyond the festive period.
