The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of communities affected by a devastating windstorm in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The affected communities include Nasarawa Tudu, Nasarawa Rahi, Kofar Attahiru, Danyali, Illela Takalmawa, and Mai Banche.

The assessment exercise followed reports of widespread destruction caused by the heavy windstorm, which left several residents injured and damaged numerous houses and structures across the affected communities.

During the assessment, the NEMA team observed that many houses had their rooftops blown off, walls collapsed, and living spaces severely damaged by the storm. While most affected families have not been completely displaced, many are currently facing difficult living conditions due to their inability to immediately rebuild or relocate.

The team engaged community leaders and affected residents to ascertain the extent of destruction and identify immediate humanitarian needs. Areas assessed included shelter, household materials, medical support, and other relief requirements necessary to support recovery efforts.

NEMA assured the affected communities that findings from the assessment would guide appropriate interventions and humanitarian support for the victims.

The Agency also reiterated its commitment to responding promptly to disaster situations and strengthening resilience among vulnerable communities.
