The National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has rejected reported plans by the National Assembly to ban preaching in commercial buses, vowing that Christians will continue evangelism in public places.

In a viral video, Oke said Christians will obey God’s command to spread the gospel rather than any law seeking to stop evangelism in buses, taxis and other public areas.

“If they arrest Christians for preaching, then the government should turn stadiums into prisons because we won’t stop evangelizing,” he declared. He challenged authorities to explain how they would imprison over 65 million Christians under PFN.

The cleric accused government of misplaced priorities, asking why attention was on preachers instead of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping. He said Christians preach peace and should not be criminalized.

Oke warned public officials supporting the policy to reconsider, adding that they will account to God. He also threatened to mobilize millions of Christians for peaceful protests if the ban is enacted.

The Senate, however, clarified that the prohibition of preaching and hawking in commercial vehicles is not new. It said the offense has existed in the FRSC Act since 2007, and the 2026 amendment only proposes a N50,000 fine for violators.
