At 62 years on mother Earth on 12 December 2024, Wale Akinterinwa embodies the essence of resilience, adaptability, and determination – Qualities that make him a true “cat with nine lives.” This tribute celebrates not only the milestones of his remarkable life from the zenith of banking and finance to the high pedestal of governance, but also the indomitable spirit that has carried him through challenges and triumphs alike.

Birthed into a world filled with possibilities in Ile-Oluji to the family of Mr. Moses and Mrs. Agnes Akinteriwa on 12th of December 1962. He had his Primary education at K. Kotun Memorial Nursery and Primary School, Surulere, Lagos, from where he gained admission to Government College Ibadan. Adewale was in GCI from where he obtained both his WASC and HSC. Wale’s journey has been a testament to unwavering perseverance. From humble beginnings nestled in a middle class background, he carved a path that saw him excel in various endeavours. His life’s story is one of constant reinvention, a man who refuses to be defined by setbacks, but instead employs them as stepping stones to greater heights.

Wale’s professional achievements are as varied as they are impressive. A visionary leader, he has left an indelible mark on every field he has ventured into. Whether in business, public service, or community development, his contributions have consistently showcased his brilliance, creativity, and commitment to excellence. His ability to navigate complex challenges with calm determination has earned him the admiration of peers and protégés alike.

But Wale’s story is not just one of success; it is also one of grace under pressure. Like the proverbial cat with nine lives, he has faced trials that would have deterred the faint-hearted. Yet, each time, he has emerged stronger, more focused, and even more determined to make a difference. His resilience is a source of inspiration, a reminder that setbacks are merely setups for comebacks.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Wale is a man of profound humanity. He is a mentor, a father figure, granddad and a friend to many. His kindness and generosity know no bounds, and his ability to connect with people on a personal level has endeared him to all who cross his path. Those who know him well often speak of his infectious optimism and his knack for finding silver linings even in the darkest clouds.

At 62, Wale Akinterinwa continues to be a beacon of hope and a model of what it means to live a life of purpose. His story reminds us all that while we may not control the challenges we face, we do have the power to choose how we respond to them. And Wale’s choice has always been to rise, to persevere, and to inspire.

The financial egghead with salt and pepper populated outlook remains unfazed despite the drawbacks he encountered earlier in the murky waters of politics. He carries himself with elan and panache without any airs whatsoever. This author put this pressing question to him earlier that how has remained steadfast despite the impediment he experienced earlier in his political odyssey. He calmly responded that one must not relent despite the challenges that life throws up. His calm demeanour projects a facade of an entity who’s cool as a cucumber.

In a nutshell, as we celebrate this milestone in his life, let us draw from his example the courage to face our own challenges with resilience and hope. Here’s to Wale Akinterinwa, a man who proves that life’s battles are not for the swift nor the strong, but for those who endure to the end.

Happy 62nd birthday to a true legend and an eternal optimist. May your days ahead be as impactful and inspiring as the years you’ve lived.
