The closure is in commemoration of the June 12, Democracy Day holiday.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, June 12, 2026, in observance of the Democracy Day holiday”, the U.S. Nigeria Mission stated.

Recall that the Nigerian government had declared Friday a public holiday.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his democracy message on Friday, said Nigerians should not stop believing in the country despite her challenges.
