The Pioneer Vice Chancellor of Ilesa University, Ilesa, Prof. Taiwo Asaolu has hinted that the institution would offer admissions to applicants and commence academic work by September this year.

He however maintained that one of the unique features of the university is to make it an entrepreneurial-oriented university so that “you cannot graduate from this university without having a skill adding to what your primary discipline is. It’s going to be compulsory. You must acquire an additional skill before you can graduate from this university.”

The Vice Chancellor made these known in an interview with newsmen on Thursday after the familiarisation tour of Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Hon. Gbenga Onigbogi to the university.

He affirmed that, the feedback received from the National University Commission attested to the students admissions by September.

Asaolu maintained that, “By the grace of God before the end of September 2023, the first set of students will be admitted into the university of Ilesa.”

“We  have just had our resource verification led by the executive secretary of the national universities commission, Dr. Chris Mayaki and even with our own preparation, we are expecting that we will be given the pass mark to commence this and once we pass this, they will communicate with JAMB and we will be given students”.

While answering questions on the phase one programmes of the university, the VC said,  “We have the faculty of arts, the faculty of social and management sciences, the faculty of law,the faculty of basic medical and applied sciences and the faculty of education.

“These are the five faculties we are starting on phase one. Hopefully before the year runs out when we are more stabilized then the phase two programme will be mounted.”

On the preparation for the task, he remarked, “If you talk of physical stability and mental preparation, to the glory of God, we are up to the task. We are ready and the chairman of the council is giving us all the necessary things and the government as well is giving us all we require to face the challenges”.

We are trying to make this an entrepreneurial-oriented university so that you cannot graduate from this university without having a skill adding to what your primary discipline is. It’s going to be compulsory. You must acquire an additional skill before you can graduate from this university,” he stated.

Also, the Pro-Chancellor, Onigbogi, reiterated the commitment of all stakeholders to build the newly established citadel of knowledge to an enviable first class University.

He said, “the state governor desires to have a University that will be a model University in the world and a worthy legacy for his administration and has  therefore consistently that, necessary support and attention shall be given to Unilesa towards ensuring that the University meets its strategic vision, mission and objectives as soon as possible
