The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, and the Edo State Governor on Tuesday inspected the Benin–Agbor Road alongside members of the National Assembly, senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Works and other key stakeholders.
They assessed the condition of the road and the challenges faced by commuters and residents along the corridor.
The Minister apologised to the people of Edo and Delta States over the state of the road and directed immediate action to address the situation. He also ordered action against contractors found removing asphalt from federal roads without authorisation.
Speaking during the inspection, the Governor said Edo is a major gateway connecting several parts of the country, and pledged that the state government would continue to work with the Federal Government to restore roads and ease the hardship faced by residents.
He appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for responding promptly to the concerns of the people.
The Governor appealed to youths and residents to remain calm as efforts are intensified to bring lasting relief to road users, adding: “We will continue to put the interests of Edo people first.”
