Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu has debunked reports that the United Arab Emirates, UAE, has resumed visa services for Nigerian citizens wishing to visit the country.
On Tuesday, a statement went viral claiming that the UAE had lifted the ban on Nigerian travellers.
According to the statement, Nigerians planning to visit the UAE will have to develop a Document Verification Number and afterwards visit the UAE embassy in Lagos or Abuja for an interview.
The statement also claimed that the commencement of visa issuance was a “milestone, reflecting the successful outcome of in-depth talks between the two nations and underscoring.
But Onanuga in his post on X said the document was never authorized by the UAE or Nigerian government.
“UAE has not resumed visa issuance to Nigerians.
“The document in circulation is not authorised either by the Nigerian government or the UAE,” he wrote
