Two suspected gunrunners have been arrested with a bag containing eight locally made pump-action guns, one locally made pistol and sixty-five live cartridges in Kaduna State.
The duo identified as 40-year-old Zubairu Musa, and Nasiru Saidu, 17 were arrested by operatives from 47 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Zaria during a routine patrol along the Zaria-Jos Road.
Police authorities said the operatives acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of illegal arms within the state, resulting in the arrest of the suspects.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Munsir Hassan who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, December 6 said the suspects are both natives of Kankara local government area of Katsina State.
The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in the illegal trafficking of firearms, adding that they are currently cooperating with the police to aid in the apprehension of their accomplices and to uncover the full extent of the gunrunning network within the state.
Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Abdullahi has commended the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
CP Abdullahi further urged the citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.
