U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that American military strikes have reduced violence against Christians in Nigeria.
During a public address on Saturday, the president asserted that these interventions have dealt a major blow to extremist organizations operating in the region.
“We recently struck Nigeria and largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations,” President Trump stated, describing the violence as a severe humanitarian crisis that had claimed the lives of thousands, including women, children, and the elderly.
According to the president, the U.S. military strategy involved direct action against the leadership of the responsible groups.
He claimed that the operations successfully eliminated the top three commanders of the targeted organizations, which he argues has forced surviving militants to retreat out of fear of further retaliation.
President Trump framed the protection of religious communities as a central pillar of his broader foreign policy.
He suggested that by neutralizing these threats abroad, the U.S. is preventing the spread of ideologies that could eventually pose a danger to American national security.
“I’m saving them by hitting these terrorists very violently and very hard,” he said, emphasizing that his administration remains committed to tracking and eliminating terrorist leaders globally.
While the president did not disclose specific locations or identify the exact militant groups involved in these strikes, his comments align with recent discussions regarding heightened security cooperation between the U.S. and Nigeria.
Military officials from both nations have recently reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their strategic partnership, focusing on collaborative military planning and defense support for Nigeria’s ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the North East.
The U.S. Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) recently underscored this commitment during a high-level visit to the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, where leaders discussed enhancing the effectiveness of joint security operations.
