Operatives of the Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF) have thwarted a planned armed-robbery attack in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, arresting one suspect and seizing a cache of weapons.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, disclosed in a statement that the operation was carried out around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, after credible intelligence revealed that a gang of robbers was regrouping at a hideout in Gboko East to strike selected targets.
The JTF team stormed the location and captured one suspect identified as 35-year-old Liambe Orpine of Anvambe, Buruku LGA while other gang members fled on sighting the operatives.
Recovered from the hideout were an AK-47 rifle, a jackknife, and three locally fabricated Dane guns.
The suspect is in custody as detectives intensify efforts to track down his accomplices.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, praised the swift action of Operation Zenda personnel and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime.
He urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to support security operations.
