According to the statement, the operation, which took place between August 2 and 3, targeted bandits’ camps in Tse-Ahur and Chito areas of Ukum Local Government in Benue State.

“Soldiers from Sector 3 set up a blocking position in Gindin Mangoro, Wukari LGA of Taraba to stop fleeing criminals

“When the troops attacked the kidnappers’ stronghold, they arrested two key suspects while others fled, leaving behind the hostages and weapons,” the statement read.

The statement further revealed that the rescued victims include four women and seven men who were given medical care and are being prepared to reunite with their families.

“A wide range of weapons were recovered, including FN rifles, G3 rifles, AK-47 rifles, a machine gun, locally made guns, ammunition, and other items,” it added.

Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, praised the troops for their courage and determination.

“I commend the gallantry and fighting spirit of our troops for maintaining pressure on the criminals. We are committed to pursuing these enemies wherever they hide to restore peace and security.”

He thanked the Chief of Defence Staff and other military leaders for their support and said the success was possible because of teamwork between security agencies.

He assured that troops would maintain operational pressure, dominate the battlespace, and restore peace and security to Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa States.
