Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate abduction attempts in Zamfara State and repelled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State, rescuing 16 civilians in the process.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the operations took place on Thursday, August 28, 2026.
In Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call and prevented terrorists from abducting residents.
Four civilians were rescued during the operation, after which troops conducted a sweep of the area to forestall further attacks.
Later in Tsafe LGA, the same troops intercepted terrorists attempting to abduct passengers in two vehicles around Kwanoni Village.
A firefight ensued, forcing the attackers to retreat and abandon their victims. All 12 passengers were rescued unhurt.
In a related incident in Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto State, troops engaged terrorists who attacked Jabo Village. The attackers withdrew under superior firepower. Two civilians injured during the attack were evacuated for treatment.
Lt. Col. Danja said the operations underscore the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect communities and deny terrorists freedom of action across the North West.
