Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, JTF NW OPFY, have neutralised terrorists and intercepted a large cache of ammunition during separate operations in Zamfara and Kaduna States on Tuesday, September 2, 2026.

In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, ambushed the insurgents at Kwanar Jolof.

A statement by the Media Information Officer of JTF NW OPFY, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops engaged the terrorists and neutralised scores, while others fled in disarray.

During exploitation of the area, the troops recovered one rocket-propelled grenade, RPG, launcher, one RPG bomb, one AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle, among other items.

In a related operation in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa – Zaria Road.

According to the statement, one of the passengers resisted inspection of his bag and attempted to escape after being compelled to open it. Troops pursued and neutralised the suspect.

A search of the bag revealed 793 rounds of ammunition concealed inside gari. The vehicle and its driver are currently in military custody for further investigation.

The JTF said the operations form part of the sustained offensive by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt the flow of arms and ammunition, and deny terrorists freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.

It added that troops remain resolute in the fight against terrorism and committed to the restoration of lasting peace in affected communities across the Joint Operations Area.
