Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate abduction attempts, rescued civilians and neutralized an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, in Zamfara State.*
In a statement on Sunday by the Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Command said troops of Sector 2 responded to an abduction incident on 17 August 2026 along the Gurusu–Anka Road and pursued the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their captives.
Seven victims, comprising 4 women and 3 children, were rescued unharmed.
In a separate operation in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists around Magazu Village. The troops engaged the terrorists, who fled into nearby bushes.
Some of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Earlier the same day, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team neutralized an IED planted by terrorists along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum LGA. The area was secured before the device was safely detonated, averting possible casualties among troops and civilians.
“The successful interventions underscore the vigilance, responsiveness and determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops in protecting lives, securing communities and keeping major routes safe from terrorist activities,” the statement said.
The Theatre Command assured the public that troops will sustain pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area and deny them freedom to threaten citizens.
It urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information on suspicious activities to security forces.
