President Bola Tinubu will, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, depart Lagos for Pretoria, South Africa, to attend the inauguration of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
According to a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, on Monday, Tinubu will return to Nigeria after the ceremony.
The inauguration of President Ramaphosa follows his re-election as President for a second term which came after a deal between his party, the African National Congress (ANC), and the Democratic Alliance, along with other smaller parties, allowing the incumbent to secure another five-year term.
Although his party won 159 out of 400 seats in Parliament, it has forged a ruling coalition with its old rivals, Democratic Alliance and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
The coalition partners re-elected Ramaphosa in Parliament last Friday.
The ANC had won 40 percent of the vote in the recent general election but lost its absolute majority in parliament for the first time, leading to the formation of a “government of national unity.”
Ramaphosa was first sworn in as President on February 15, 2018.
