A Lagos State based business analyst and corporate affairs commentator, Mr. Victor Iyoho, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not achieve the expected success unless he carefully selects competent and reliable individuals to serve as his ministers and advisers.

He is of the opinion that the pains Nigerians have been undergoing for over four decades can be addressed if the President shuns nepotism in the selection of his cabinet members.

This is just as a retired Deputy Supritendent of Police, Mr. Abner Ajurojo, asked the President to ignore calls to extend retirement age of some groups of public workers.

According to him, the calls become necessary to enable abled young school leavers to secure employments in the public sector.

Ajurojo expressed the belief during a chat at the weekend that Tinubu would perform well for Nigerians because of the President’s versed and rich experience in both public and private sectors.

In a chat with Present Newspapers at the weekend, Iyoho said the importance of the appointees in running a successful administration cannot be overemphasized.

He therefore urged the President to dissipate his energy on issues that would promote the interests of the over 200 millions Nigerian citizens.

Iyoho said: ” Between 1999 and 2015, it was reported we had an economy that had an average growth rate of 6%, stable Forex regime, lower inflation, etc.

“Fast forward to the present situation, what do we have; chaos! Why the difference? The difference was in the quality of the teams that worked with the various presidents at their respective administration.

“If this president wants to do well, he must pay attention to the calibre of the persons he is recruiting to help him steer the ship.

“His appointments should be composed of, at least, 60% technocrats, whom he would give the freehand to do the needful.

“Adding to this, the cabinet should be put in place as soon as possible. He should avoid the error of the immediate past administration that thought that it was only people from a particular region/section of the country that were good enough for appointments.

” There are good people everywhere.’

In his own submission, Ajurojo urged adequate training of the youth to gender robust management of the nation’s resources.

He said: “If the Federal Government needs experts to carry out the implementation of its policies, our youths are available.

“They should be genuinely and adequately trained to get the expertise from them.

“Again, retirees should not be forgotten. They have served the country with their youthful vigour. So, I appeal to our President to remember them.”
