President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi; his African Action Congress (AAC) counterpart, Omoyele Sowore; and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, among others, have signed the National Peace Accord, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The signing ceremony was held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Representatives of other presidential candidates, governorship and National Assembly candidates, political party chairmen and other political leaders were also in attendance.
The peace accord is aimed at committing political actors to issue-based campaigns and to prevent violence before, during and after the 2027 elections.
Stakeholders at the event urged candidates and their supporters to abide by the terms of the accord and to uphold democratic values throughout the electoral process.
The National Peace Committee is expected to continue engagements with political parties to ensure compliance with the agreement.
