A chilling sense of déjà vu grips the corridors where Nigeria’s stolen billions are supposedly recovered. A cold dread, familiar yet freshly horrifying, settles over citizens who dared to hope that this time might be different. The wolves are gathering again. The National Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Commission (NUPCPC) – a name that echoes with the ghosts of discredited past entities – has slithered back onto the scene. Its mandate? To “reap where they did not sow,” plunging its teeth into the complex, painful process of recovering Nigeria’s plundered wealth, despite a damning declaration from the very courts meant to uphold our laws.

Who Elected These Wolves?

The question hangs heavy in the air, thick with suspicion and outrage. By whose authority does the NUPCPC operate? There was no national referendum. No transparent parliamentary debate culminating in a clear legislative mandate. No public call for nominations scrutinized by civil society. Its formation reeks of backroom deals, whispered agreements in the halls of power far removed from the suffering masses whose pensions, infrastructure, and futures were stolen. It emerged, seemingly fully formed, like a phantom conjured from the shadows of past failed recovery efforts – the EFCC, ICPC, and the specter of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), whose own legacy remains deeply controversial. Who stands to gain from its resurrection?

Whose Interests Do They Truly Serve?

Look beyond the sanitized press releases and pronouncements of patriotism. Ask: Cui bono? Who benefits? The track record of entities tasked with recovering stolen assets in Nigeria is a litany of broken promises, re-looting, and baffling inefficiency. Billions recovered vanish into budgetary black holes or are allegedly re-stolen with breathtaking audacity. The NUPCPC, operating without the clear, legal legitimacy its predecessors at least initially possessed, raises terrifying prospects:

  1. A Smokescreen for Re-Looting: Could this be an elaborate facade, a new vehicle for the same old predators to gain “legal” access to recovered funds, only to siphon them off once more?
  2. Settling Political Scores: Is its target list curated not by evidence of grand corruption, but by political expediency, silencing opponents under the guise of “recovery”?
  3. Stifling Genuine Reform: Does its existence muddy the waters, creating confusion and bureaucratic hurdles that actually hinder transparent, accountable recovery efforts by established (though flawed) agencies?
  4. Feeding the Cabal: Ultimately, does it serve the insatiable appetite of the same unelected, shadowy “cabal” that has profited from Nigeria’s misery for decades?

The Court’s Thunderous “No!” Ignored

This is not mere speculation. The most damning evidence against the NUPCPC’s legitimacy comes not from whispers, but from the Court of Competent Jurisdiction. A Judge, upholding the sanctity of the law and the constitution, has declared the NUPCPC illegal. Its formation, its very existence, was found to contravene established legal procedures and potentially usurp the mandates of constitutionally created bodies. The gavel fell. The verdict was clear: STOP.

Yet, the wolves gather. They circle. They defy.

Who Gave Them This Arrogant Mandate?

This is the heart of the bewildering outrage! Who possesses such contempt for the Nigerian judiciary, for the rule of law, for the will of the people, that they dare to breathe life back into an entity declared ILLEGAL? Was it a powerful minister acting beyond their brief? A cabal operating with impunity? A desperate political maneuver blind to its own illegality? This defiance is not just administrative overreach; it is an assault on the foundations of Nigerian democracy. It spits in the face of every citizen who believes justice should be blind and the law supreme. It sends the chilling message: power trumps legality. Might makes right.

Our Hard-Earned Entitlement: The Stakes Could Not Be Higher

This isn’t abstract bureaucratic wrangling. This is about OUR MONEY. The billions stolen represent looted pensions that left our elderly destitute. They represent funds meant for hospitals where people now die needlessly, for schools crumbling while futures dim, for roads that are death traps. Every Naira recovered must be returned transparently to the national treasury, accounted for, and deployed for the PUBLIC GOOD. Allowing an illegal entity like the NUPCPC to insert itself into this fragile, critical process is like inviting foxes to guard the henhouse – again. We cannot, we MUST NOT, allow our hard-earned national entitlement, painstakingly recovered (often at great cost and risk), to be stolen a second time under this grotesque, illegal charade.

An Urgent, Passionate Plea to the Federal Government:

We are bewildered. We are angry. We are terrified of history repeating itself in an even more brazen fashion. Therefore, we raise our voices in passionate, unified conviction:

To the President, the Attorney General, the National Assembly, and all custodians of Nigeria’s sovereignty:

  1. HEED THE COURT! The NUPCPC has been declared illegal. This is not a suggestion; it is a legal determination. Enforce it. Dissolve this entity immediately. Any continued operation is an act of lawlessness condoned by the state.
  2. DEMAND TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY: Who precisely authorized the formation and continued operation of the NUPCPC after the court judgment? Hold those individuals fully accountable for this affront to the judiciary and the constitution.
  3. STRENGTHEN EXISTING FRAMEWORKS: Focus efforts and resources on empowering, reforming, and ensuring the absolute transparency of legally constituted anti-corruption agencies (EFCC, ICPC). Mandate public, real-time tracking of all recovered assets.
  4. PROTECT THE LOOT FROM THE LOOTERS: Implement ironclad, citizen-oversight mechanisms for all recovered funds. Ensure every kobo is accounted for and directed solely towards national development and restitution for victims.
  5. WARY OF THE WOLVES: Be vigilant! Recognize the NUPCPC for what it appears to be – a potential Trojan horse for the very corruption it claims to fight. Do not grant it an inch of legitimacy. Do not allow it access to a single recovered asset.

The gathering wolves smell blood – the blood of a nation still hemorrhaging from past thefts. They circle, emboldened by defiance of the law, shrouded in questions of their origin and purpose. We have seen this play before. We know how it ends: with the people robbed, again, and the predators fatter, bolder.

Do not let history repeat its cruelest joke. Dissolve the NUPCPC. Uphold the law. Protect Nigeria’s stolen future. The wolves must be driven back into the shadows, not welcomed to the feast. Our survival as a nation demanding justice depends on it. The time for action is NOW.
