Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has expressed shock over the demise of the National President of the Nigeria Council for Women Society, NCWS, Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau.

Lami, who hails from Taraba State, was said to have died on Tuesday in Kebbi State during an official engagement.

In a condolence message, made available to journalists on Thursday in Jalingo, the state capital, the governor described the late Lami as a Taraba golden export to the rest of the world.

A statement signed by the governor’s Special Adviser Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, lauded her contributions to women’s causes, saying she stands tall in the history of gender activism.

He noted that her demise has left a huge vacuum that may not easily be filled.

While consoling her family, the state, and the nation at large, the governor pledged support for women’s inclusion in governance.

He said the late Lami was an inspiration to him on the power of girl child education that spurred him into the free education policy.

Through the late women activists, the governor admitted that he was encouraged to know that educating a woman is a gift to the whole world, noting that Lami exemplified the saying.

He reaffirmed his faith in the administrative capacity of the women – a fact that he said has made him the governor with the highest number of women in the executive cabinet.

He said she would be remembered for her principled and dogged fight against the oppression of women and her commitment to bettering the lives of women and children in Nigeria.
