Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has declared Friday, May 14, 2021, as a public holiday in addition to the observed days of Wednesday and Thursday declared as such by the Federal Government for the commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr festival.

“This extension,” noted the Head of Service of the state, Mallam Abubakar Muhammad (Mni), “is to allow citizens in the state to maximize the holiday as Friday is a weekend day.”

“In addition, the governor has appealed to the people of the state to utilize the extension as an opportunity not only to felicitate and relax but also to pray vigorously for the peace, stability and progress in the state and the country.

“There is no doubt that the imperative for peace in all spheres of life in the state and beyond, in the face of the subsisting intractable security challenges, cannot be avoided or over-emphasized. As such all citizens of the state should take deep introspection and not relent in offering supplications asking God for divine intervention to overcome the disturbing trends of banditry, kidnappings and violence across the Northern States and the country at large.

“For this reasons, the state governor extended the public holiday period so that all citizens can avail themselves of an additional period to also pray for the leadership of the country, particularly President Muhammadu Buhari, for God to grant him good health, wisdom and capacity to effectively oversee and pilot the affairs of the country.,” Mal. Muhammad stated.
