The Plateau State Police Command has arrested suspected armed robbers allegedly terrorizing communities in Bassa Local Government Area of the state. 

The suspects, Jafaru Sale, Abdulsalam Adam, and Mamuda Musa, were arrested after they attacked cattle traders and robbed them of N1.9m, all proceeds of the sale of their cows.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Police Headquarters in Jos on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.  

According to Adesina, the operational successes are not only a testament of the diligence and commitment of officers, but also the collaborative spirit of Plateau citizens and synergetic support from members of other security agencies.

“The Plateau State Police Command received a report on 13th August 2025 at about 05:00pm, from one Abubakar Mohammadu, Nasiru Umar and Haruna Mohammed, both male of Kishika area, Binchin Village of Bassa Local Government Area, that on 27th July 2025 at about 10:00pm while they were on their way from Bukuru Cattle Market where they sold three (3) cows, they were attacked and robbed by some hoodlums armed with a locally made gun,” he stated.

“During the attack, the hoodlums robbed them of the following sums of money; Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000.00k), Four Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira (N418,000.00k), and Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (N900,000.00k), totaling about One Million, Nine Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira (1,918,000.00k) only, all proceeds of the sale of their cows. Other items carted away by the hoodlums include one Tecno T528 phone, Two knives, one Itel phone, and three walking sticks.

“Following the report, detectives from Bassa Division immediately swung into action and as a result, the following suspects have been arrested in connection to the offence; one Jafaru Sale, Abdulsalam Adam, and Mamuda Musa. 

“The suspects confessed to be responsible for the armed robberies that have been carried out along Bassa and Jengre communities. The case is currently under investigation at the State CID and will be charged to Court upon conclusion of our investigation.

“While acting upon credible intelligence, detectives from Langtang South Division raided the house of one Kokyak, male of Mabudi on 18/08/2025. On reaching the house, it was discovered that the suspect had fled to unknown location. 

“Upon executing a search warrant in his residence, one locally fabricated rifle with an empty magazine was recovered. Efforts are on top gear to arrest the suspect for proper prosecution.

“In conclusion, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, for your continued support to the Police and other security agencies on the Plateau and Diaspora.

“This accurate and citizen-centered reportage of events have been very instrumental in sustaining the fragile peace we are currently enjoying.

“To the government and good people of Plateau State, I thank you for your support, especially in the area of intelligence reports and providing the Police with all the necessary assistance to ensure that the State remains peaceful. This is a testament that the people of Plateau State are security friendly,

“I want to assure you, that we as a Command are doing everything within our constitutional powers, to ensure that peace is restored on the Plateau.

“I have also directed the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) to immediately release the Active Response Phone Numbers of the Command’s Management Team, all Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to members of the public to call in any case of emergency.”
