Osimhen opened the scoring for Nigeria with a side-footed finish from Ademola Lookman’s free-kick and doubled the lead just before halftime, giving Nigeria a comfortable advantage at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday night.
The Galatasaray forward then doubled his side’s advantage after winning the ball on the halfway line and slotting it past the goalkeeper.
The result against Rwanda means the Super Eagles are now in fourth position in Group C, following South Africa’s 2-0 win against Lesotho on Friday.
The three-time African champions revived their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Super Eagles will now face Zimbabwe on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
The match marked the first game under new head coach Éric Chelle, the Franco-Malian tactician tasked with guiding the Super Eagles back to the global stage.
With these two goals, Osimhen has now surpassed the legendary Segun Odegbami on Nigeria’s all-time scorers list.
