Coco Samba, a popular sexual stimulant, was found to contain more than the approved dose of sildenafil, a medication used for enhancing sexual stimulation.

According to NAFDAC, the dangerous sildenafil levels were discovered after a seizure of the product in Germany, where it was subsequently analyzed by the German Official Medicines Control Laboratory.

On further investigation, it was discovered that the NAFDAC Registration Number on the product “A4-9149” is falsified and different from that obtained from the NAFDAC database “A8-4418L” for the geniun product. Laboratory analysis conducted by the Agency also confirmed the presence of undeclared sildenafil content.

The analysis revealed undeclared amounts of sildenafil, reaching 150mg in a 100 ml portion, surpassing the maximum daily recommended dose.

Sildenafil is a prescription medicine used for treating erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

When combined with nitrates present in certain prescription drugs, it can lead to a severe drop in blood pressure, posing life-threatening risks.

NAFDAC emphasized the potential danger, especially for individuals with underlying health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease, who may already be taking nitrates.

The agency issued the warning due to the widespread circulation of the product, urging the public to avoid its consumption.
