Reacting to her death in a personal statement on his social media handles, Atiku described the deceased as a strong woman who will remain a golden icon of women’s emancipation in politics.

He wrote;

“I received the news of the passing of Aisha Maina, Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Female Education, with an attendant sense of dejection.

“She passed away following an incident at the end of our rally in Sokoto yesterday.

“Aisha’s death is a heavy loss to our PDP family.

“She was a strong woman in every sense of the word, and it’s saddening that she lost her life while she remained a golden icon of women’s emancipation in politics.

“Her experience in women mobilisation and hard work, which we needed most at this time, will be painfully missed.

“While I commiserate with her immediate family, the Government and the people of Sokoto State over the sudden loss, I pray for Almighty Allah to forgive her sins and grant her soul eternal rest.”
