Sokoto state has recorded over 1,000 cases of measles in the last three months
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ali Inname, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday.
He also confirmed that some children were lost to the disease at some villages in Tambuwal local government area.
The villages include Dan Madi, Kaurare and Aljannare.
According to him, the cases were recorded in all the 23 local government areas.
He noted that the outbreak was principally observed among the unvaccinated children.
He added that there were few vaccinated children also inflicted but their cases were not severe.
“We have some communities that are still not responsive to our immunization campaigns.
“We have 500 centres that are providing routine immunization and we have adequate vaccines,” he said
He however, called on parents to willingly submit their children for routine immunization.
On their part, he said they would continue to monitor the situation closely as medical officers were deployed to the affected area.
