The Sokoto State Government has earmarked N1.59bn for the procurement of 30 Toyota Hilux vans to enhance security agencies’ fight against banditry and other crimes.
This was disclosed after the 8th Regular Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
The vehicles are in addition to over 200 Hilux vans and 62 armoured vehicles earlier procured and distributed to security agencies.
The Council also approved a bill for the Sokoto State Banditry Special Prohibition Law, 2026, to checkmate activities of armed bandits.
Other approvals include 10 Mitsubishi Canter vans at N776.34m, two Hilux vans at N122m, completion of 30 lock-up shops at Sokoto Transport Authority terminal at N118.1m, renovation of Government Science Secondary School, Gwadabawa at N844.65m, and renovation of hostels at Idris Koko Technical College, Farfaru, at N182.25m.
It also approved renovation at Ahmadu Bello Academy, Farfaru at N123.91m, renovation of eight housing units at Shehu Shagari College of Education at N168.67m, library equipment for Shehu Shagari University of Education at N132.46m, a storey administrative block at Aliyu Magatakarda College of Technology at N550.42m, and perimeter fence at Veterinary Specialist Hospital at N234.67m.
The Council approved a bill to repeal the Shehu Shagari College of Education Law, 2026, to provide dual mandate for NCE and degree awards.
