Six individuals have been arrested for allegedly vandalising a government barricade at Obalende Roundabout, a critical traffic hub in Lagos.
The suspects were identified as Matthew Yohana, 19; Jinadu Aliyu, 33; Yohanna Adamu, 29; Ayuba James, 25; Umoru John, 19; and Yakubu Ali, 25.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab who announced the arrest said the suspects would face prosecution.
“All arrested individuals will be prosecuted in line with the relevant extant law of the state. We will not allow criminality or lawlessness to undermine public safety or the environment in Lagos State,” Wahab stated.
The incident comes amid a broader clampdown on vandalism and disorder in Lagos. In recent months, authorities have arrested groups linked to illegal street protests, destruction of public property, and obstruction of traffic in Ojota, Ikeja, and other parts of the metropolis.
Officials say the crackdown is part of intensified efforts to protect civic infrastructure and maintain safety at busy junctions and commercial centres. The state government urged residents to support law enforcement by reporting acts of vandalism or behaviour that could endanger public safety.
Reaffirming the administration’s stance, Wahab added, “We are determined to uphold the rule of law and ensure that Lagos remains safe and conducive for all residents and visitors.”
