The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected Governor Ademola Adeleke’s response to allegations that his administration is harbouring wanted criminals in the Government House.
The controversy arose following a visit by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, to the Government House in Osogbo on Friday. During the visit, the IGP reportedly confronted the governor with information suggesting that wanted individuals were being sheltered on the premises.
In a statement released on Saturday, the APC, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, dismissed Governor Adeleke’s defense as “evasive.”
The party maintains that the governor is actively shielding wanted suspects from law enforcement and criticized his administration for relying on “propaganda.”
To support these claims, the APC pointed to a viral video purportedly showing a wanted individual leading a group into the Government House, alongside photographs allegedly depicting the governor in the company of political thugs.
The Imole Campaign Council, representing Governor Adeleke, swiftly countered the allegations. Jamiu Olawumi, the Director of Strategic Communication for the council, labeled the APC’s claims as “spurious and irresponsible.” Olawumi argued that the presence of police operatives within the Government House—who are tasked with maintaining order and reporting to their superiors—undermines the APC’s narrative of a systemic security failure.
He further emphasized that Governor Adeleke has publicly stated that no criminal should be spared, regardless of their relationship to him.
The council suggested that the APC is attempting to smear the image of the police force for political gain and urged investigators to question the APC leadership to resolve the matter.
During the IGP’s visit, Governor Adeleke maintained that he does not shelter criminals and encouraged the police to arrest any suspected individuals in the state, even if they are personally connected to him.
As of now, the disagreement between the two political factions continues, with both sides calling for accountability regarding the security allegations.
