Just few hours to Ekiti Governorship election,unconfirmed report said the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Engr. Segun Oni has withdrawn from the race.
He reportedly announced his withdrawal through a statement he personally signed and released few hours before the commencement of the governorship election.
Oni, a former Governor of Ekiti State, said he is withdrawing from the gubernatorial race due the ongoing legal and leadership battle rocking the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Oni further accused SDP of running an illegal party activities, saying that the NWC tenure expires since 2020, with no convention held to elect new officials.
He said “the implication is that, we are a product of illegality and all other nominations done by SDP leadership stand null and void.
“ We have received received legal advice from a reputable legal luminaries, including 11 Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) that we are just wasting our time”, Oni said.
The SDP candidate in his withdrawal statement reportedly directed his supporters to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Bisi Kolawole in the Saturday governorship poll.
