Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appointed Pelumi Nubi, the travel content creator who drove from London to Lagos, as the state tourism ambassador.

After spending over two months on the road, Nubi arrived in Lagos on April 7, making her way to the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The governor who described the 28-year-old travel content creator, as a “role model for other young Lagosians”, commended her for the feat.

This was made known by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, in a tweet via his profile on X on Monday.

He said, “Welcome, Pelumi Nubi, Our Brand New Lagos Ambassador, She gets a brand New car from Governor #jidesanwoolu, A new home in Lagos, a customised plate number and one more thing, she is donating her vehicle (the one she used for the trip) to our brand new J Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History as monumental gift to Lagos State.”

Nubi, who completed her solo road trip from London, United Kingdom, to Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday was received at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border on behalf of Lagos State Government by the state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and the Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe.

In a statement earlier, Julius Aregbe, applauded Pelumi for “demonstrating a can-do spirit”.

“I am super happy. This is the Lagos spirit that we are talking about. I am happy Pelumi did it. She has demonstrated a can-do spirit,” he said.

“She is a role model for other young Lagosians. We can do a lot to make sure that we put our name on the map. Lagos tourism is rising. This is what we are talking about in terms of entertainment and hospitality.

“Lagos will continue to lead in other developments. I am happy that I have a Governor (Sanwo-Olu) who believes so much in youth and tourism, and that is why he is doing a lot.”

Nubi made the trip with a Peugeot 107. The vehicle has been customised with features that will enable space for sleeping and dining.

The development comes nearly two years after Kunle Adeyanju, the Nigerian tourist, rode a bike from London to Lagos.
