The 14th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has visited and held a private meeting with the leader of Niger Republic’s Military Junta, General Tchani, to deliberate on the situation in the country.
It is not clear in what capacity did Sanusi II embarked on the trip to Niger, which is currently having a running battle with ECOWAS and has severed diplomatic relations with Nigeria.
But on Wednesday, footage of Sanusi, whose Tijjaniya sect has a large following in Niger, went into circulation.
Sanusi’s meeting with the military leadership is coming after the junta aborted a meeting with representatives of the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) and a top US diplomat.
