The House of Representatives has been forced to adjourn plenary over the non-availability of order paper for the day’s plenary.

The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, who was visibly angry, said he would hold all the staff responsible for the failure of the Order Paper to be produced for Thursday’s plenary February 3.

“I am going to hold you (the clerk) responsible, I am going to hold whoever is responsible. This House sits at 11.00 am, everybody knows that. This is 11:20 am, when I came in, there was nobody on this row. You were not here, none of your deputies were here. The order paper is not ready, we cannot function as a House.

“What kind of thing is that, that we are now forced to adjourn plenary. Everybody should see me in my office, House adjourned till Tuesday,” Gbajabiamila said angrily as he adjourned plenary till next week.

Before the adjournment, the Speaker complained that only a few lawmakers were present at  the chamber.

He added that, to his astonishment, the Order Paper was also not available for the day’s business to start.

The Order Paper is a publication containing the order of bills, motions, reports and meetings to be treated on a legislative day.

The Speaker, therefore, called for adjournment of the plenary to Tuesday, February 8th, 2022.

Peter Akpatason (APC, Edo) moved a motion for the adjournment and was seconded.
