A devastating rainstorm tore through Ilase, Ogun State, on Wednesday, leaving a 14-year-old student of Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School, Timothy Amosun, dead when the school building collapsed.

The Ogun State government confirmed the heartbreaking incident in a statement by Mr Lekan Adeniran, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The violent storm left a trail of destruction, injuring five students, two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old baby. The governor described the incident as a “rude shock” and an “unimaginable tragedy” for the affected families and the community.

“We pray God grants the family of the deceased the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss,” Abiodun stated.

In response to the disaster, the governor announced that the state would cover all medical expenses for the injured, directing that those in critical condition be moved to specialist hospitals for advanced care.

He also instructed the Commissioner for Education to visit the victims’ families and assess the damage to ensure swift reconstruction of the school.

The tragic loss of young Timothy has plunged the community into mourning, as families and residents grapple with the devastating impact of the storm.
