The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of three Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police and elevated 16 Deputy Commissioners to substantive Commissioners of Police.
Those promoted to AIG include CP Garba Ahmed of the Yobe State Command, CP Nemi Edwin Osigoboka Iwo of Border Patrol, and CP Salman Garba Dogo of the Kwara State Command. CP Ahmed, from Katsina State, previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Enugu and Oyo State Commands.
CP Iwo was formerly CP Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) at Force Headquarters, CP Force Intelligence, and CP Edo State Command.
CP Dogo previously held key roles as CP General Intelligence at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), CP Armament, and CP Kano State Command.
The 16 newly promoted Commissioners of Police include Audu Baba Umaru, who was promoted and retired, alongside Cyriacus Enechukwu, Gombit Kopshella Bangs, Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, Rosemary Okpoho Akpan, Umar Hassan Kabir, and Usman Kanfani Jibrin. Others elevated are Naziru Abdulmajid, Osadolor Olaye, Modi Jonathan Filiya, Sani Omolori, Hassan Gwani Saleh, Hammed Sule, Ayodele Rowland Adeyemi, and Justine Obiora Oranwusi, Director of Works at Force Headquarters.
The promotions were approved at an extraordinary meeting of the Commission, presided over by its Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd.), and attended by Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd.), DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd.), and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission. The promoted officers underwent a rigorous selection process, including a written examination and oral interview.
During the session, DIG Argungu warned officers to steer clear of civil disputes, such as land matters, marital issues, and debt collection, stressing that such cases should be handled by the courts.
“The Commission will deal decisively with any officer found engaging in civil matters. We will continue to monitor and support you to ensure you give your best to the force,” he stated.
The PSC reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism and discipline within the Nigeria Police Force.
