The Vice-presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has threatened legal action against Primate Elijah Ayodele the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church over comments on his alliance with Peter Obi.
Through a letter dated June 11, 2026, and signed by his legal counsel, Magaji Ibrahim (SAN), the former Kano State governor demanded a full retraction and a public apology from the cleric within 24 hours.
The dispute followed a sermon where Ayodele accused Kwankwaso of insincerity and said he would “betray” Obi for personal gain. The cleric called the former Kano governor “fake” and claimed he was working against Obi’s interests.
Kwankwaso’s legal team said the remarks were false, malicious and portrayed him as deceitful, causing division in the NDC and damaging his integrity. They warned of a N10 billion lawsuit if Ayodele fails to apologize and stop the comments.
As of the time of reporting, Primate Ayodele has not issued a public response to the legal threat.
