The protesters reportedly blocked roads and markets in Swali, carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs while demanding justice for the deceased.

They called on the authorities to investigate the killing and ensure those responsible are brought to book.

The spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, DSP Musa Mohammed, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, January 22, 2026, said four suspects have been arrested in connection with Abadi’s death.

He identified the suspects as Musa Abdullahi, James Peter, Godbless Joel and Peremobowei Perepuighegha.

The PPRO also cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified rumours, particularly narratives suggesting that the killing was perpetrated by northerners, urging residents to always seek and verify information from the police before making public statements.

He assured that normalcy has been restored to the area, adding that the Command is following all lawful procedures to ensure that justice is served in the matter.

The Police spokesperson reiterated the commitment of the Bayelsa State Police Command to the protection of lives and property, while calling on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
