The Osun State Police Command has warned political parties and politicians against post election violence urging them to accept the outcome of the presidential and national assembly elections in good faith.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Police Command, Abayomi Oladipo who gave the warning said the security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, has the capacity to deal with perpetrators of post-election violence.
The Osun police boss made this known on Saturday while speaking with journalists as he led other heads of security agencies to monitor the polls across some local government areas in the state.
He also commended the conduct of Osun voters for exercising their civic duties without causing rancour in all the local governments visited, adding that with the comportment and conduct displayed by the electorates, there may likely not be post-election violence.
According to him, “Contrary to some predictions that Osun may be violent during the election, the conduct of the election has been very successful, and you will give credit to the police and all other security agencies, including the military, for the marvellous synergy and cooperation displayed in the course of preparation for this election.
“However, it has not finished; the job is not fully done because we have post-election violence which we are on the ground to handle should it happen in Osun State. But so far, it has been very peaceful.
“You can see the security display. It is obvious that we have the apparatus to deal with such a situation.
“But with the conduct and comportment of the voters today, there may not be anything like such.”
