The police gathered in large numbers to at strategic places around the building, denying everyone from entering the complex.

Police said the aim is to forestall breakdown of laws and order from impending taking over of the complex .

The speaker had on Wednesday raised alarm over impending forceful takeover of the assembly by people he didn’t mention.

The assembly yesterday impeached the deputy speaker and elected another lawmaker as deputy speaker.

The police officers were led to the Assembly by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Ayoola Ajala.

UPDATE

Edo Assembly drama continued as the roofs of the Assembly Complex were pulled down by artisans who claimed that the building was under renovation.

The emergency renovation begun shortly after the forceful takeover of the Assembly by 17 lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and loyalists of the Party’s Governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, were said to have stormed the premises following the invasion and ordered the removal of the roofs under the guise that it needed to be replaced with new ones.

A video which has since gone viral showed the men removing the iconic legislative mace on top of the building.

The video also showed trucks offloading gravels at the entrance of the Assembly Complex while the suspected vandals trooped into the building.
