“In the early hours of today, 19/5/2023, joint security forces rescued unhurt the two remaining victims abducted.

“Operations are still ongoing and further details shall be communicated,” the spokesperson added.

The motorcade was attacked on May 16 along Atani/Osamela road in Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.

The U.S. delegation, including Nigerian and American officials, were on a mission to assess the impact of erosion in Ogbaru LGA.

The police said nine persons died and put the blame on members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN)/Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Their names are Jefferson Obayuwane (retired DSS personnel), Sunday Prince Ubong, Ekene Nweke, Hassan Etila, Avwuvie Kaye.

Others who lost their lives were four policemen: Bukar A. Kabuiki, Emmanuel Lukpata, Friday Morgan and Adamu Andrew

The police confirmed that the remains of the deceased persons were all recovered and deposited in a morgue
