Police authorities in Anambra State have rescued six sports journalists kidnapped while traveling to Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.
The journalists were abducted on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, while travelling to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to cover the Nigeria vs Libya African Cup of Nations qualifying match, which is scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
A source stated that the journalists were travelling in a bus through Isseke around the Ihiala area when they were kidnapped.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the command have rescued six of them.
He added that operatives were still working to rescue the other victims.
He said: “Joint security forces have successfully rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while traveling from Lagos to Uyo along the Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala.
“Meanwhile, operations are still ongoing for the possible rescue of the seventh crew member.”
