The Lagos State Police Command has launched a special tactical security unit, known as the “Command Sweepers Squad,” to tackle rising criminal activities in Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
The initiative followed growing concerns and complaints from residents over insecurity in parts of the area.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, said the squad was created as a temporary intervention measure to strengthen security operations and restore public confidence in the axis.
The squad brings together operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, Police Mobile Force, sister security agencies, and the Civilian Joint Task Force.
The unit has been stationed in Ijede to enable quick deployment and effective response across Ikorodu and surrounding locations.
To boost its operations, the command has provided the squad with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
The team is tasked with identifying black spots and criminal hideouts, conducting intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols to flush out criminal elements.
The police command assured residents that all operations would be carried out professionally and within the rule of law, while urging the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
