A police inspector attached to the State Intelligence Bureau of the Nasarawa State Police Command has allegedly raped and impregnated his 15-year-old niece.
This was stated by Rabiatu Addra, state Chairman of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), during a press briefing in Lafia on Wednesday.
She explained that a whistleblower reported to FIDA that the victim was repeatedly raped by the suspect, who was her uncle.
Rabiatu further said the cop had been arrested and vowed to ensure that he was prosecuted.
While appealing to the police authorities to ensure a thorough investigation, she said FIDA would follow up on the case until justice was served.
She said, “On receipt of the information by the whistleblower, FIDA, in conjunction with the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Team, facilitated and mobilised police officers to get the suspect arrested.
“Our team, with the police, took the victim to a hospital and paid for her treatment but unfortunately she lost the six-month-old baby”, she said.
