Ahead of alleged planned protest against the continued absence of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, security operatives on Monday sealed up the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State.
The armed men which include operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force stationed their vehicles outside the secretariat.
Spokesman for the Ondo PDP, Kennedy Peretei, said the presence of the security operatives was to prevent a planned peaceful protest by youths of the party.
Peretei said the protest was for the youths to demand whereabouts of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu after being absent from the State since April, 2023.
He said;
“We can’t be accused of planning to create a crisis in the state.
“If APC knows where Akeredolu is, they should ask him to come out or resign honorably. It is now clear that the ruling party is afraid of their own shadows having failed to meet the expectations of the citizens,” Peretei said.
The ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) on Sunday raised the alarm over plots by the PDP and some APC chieftains to instigate crisis in the state.
It said Governor Akeredolu would soon be back to the State.
Recall that Alex Kalejaye, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ondo State in a statement on Sunday said Governor Akeredolu has been performing his official duties irrespective of location.
The Party also alleged that the ruling party had uncovered a plan by the PDP to instigate a crisis in the state to portray the party in bad light ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial election
The governor has been away from the state in the last six months spending over four months in Germany.
He was reported to have returned from his medical treatment two months ago.
Since his return to Nigeria in September, Akeredolu has been at his private residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, from where he runs the affairs of Ondo State thus raising dust about his health status.
