The Kano State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped 2-year-old boy and arrested three suspects.
The spokesperson for the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, April 25, 2026 said police operatives also recovered N930,000 out of the N1m ransom paid by the victim’s family.
According to the PPRO, the incident occurred on April 19 when a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area reported that his son, Aliyu Muhammad, was abducted in front of their residence.
Kiyawa said the abductors later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N1 million, which was paid.
However, the suspects failed to release the child after receiving the money.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to initiate an immediate response.
Sustained intelligence gathering and technical operations led to the identification of the suspects’ hideout and their subsequent arrest.
The suspects, Hassan Umar, Abdullahi Hamisu, and Hussaini Saminu, were traced to Gwammaja Quarters, where the victim was being held.
The child, who was kept at the residence of Hussaini Saminu, was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family.
“The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major operational breakthrough with the rescue of a 2-year-old kidnap victim, the arrest of three (03) suspects, and the recovery of ransom paid, following a sustained intelligence-led operation,” the statement read.
“On 19th April 2026, a resident of Gwammaja Quarters, Dala LGA, reported that his son, Aliyu Aliyu Muhammad ‘m’, aged 2 years, was kidnapped in front of their residence by unknown persons.
“The suspects subsequently established contact and demanded a ransom of One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00), which was paid by the victim’s family.
“Despite receiving the ransom, they failed to release the child.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, immediately directed the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to activate all operational and intelligence assets and swing into action.
“Through sustained follow-up, and technical operation, the hideout was identified and the suspects were arrested.
“The arrested suspects are: Hassan Umar, ‘m’, aged 26yrs, Abdullahi Hamisu, ‘m’, aged 19yrs, and Hussaini Saminu, ‘m’, aged 24yrs, all of Gwammaja Quarters, Kano.
“Investigation revealed that the 2-year-old victim was held captive at the residence of Hussaini Saminu, within Gwammaja Quarters.
“He was successfully rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family.
“A sum of Nine Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira (N930,000.00), being part of the ransom paid, was recovered from the suspects.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commends the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their professionalism, resilience, and tactical precision in rescuing the victim unhurt.
“He equally appreciates the Technical guidance of the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM which was instrumental to the success of the operation.
“The CP reiterated that the Command, under the strategic guidance of the Inspector-General of Police will remain relentless in its fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
“CP Bakori warns criminal elements that Kano State will continue to be unsafe for them, as the Command will deploy all lawful assets to arrest and prosecute offenders.
“He further urges parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest Police Station.
