The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has banned drone operations and announced temporary traffic restrictions in parts of Uyo ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to the state on Friday, November 6.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, announced the measures during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo.

He said the restrictions were part of security arrangements coordinated with other security agencies to ensure a safe and hitch-free presidential visit.

Under the measures, the police have prohibited the operation and flying of drones within Uyo metropolis throughout the period of the President’s visit.

The Command has also banned fireworks, knockouts and other explosive sound-producing devices within the state capital to prevent panic and security distractions.

The affected routes and locations include:

  • Airport Road
  • Shelter Afrique Junction
  • Oron Road
  • Nung Oku Junction
  • Mbierebe Junction
  • Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Motorists and other road users have been advised to avoid the affected routes during the restriction period and use alternative roads.

Azare urged residents to plan their journeys, exercise patience and cooperate with security personnel deployed across the affected areas.

While acknowledging that the measures could cause temporary inconvenience, the police commissioner said they were necessary to protect lives and property.

He also urged residents to remain law-abiding, avoid restricted areas and report suspicious movements or security concerns to the nearest police station.

The Command assured residents of adequate security deployment and coordination with other agencies throughout the presidential visit, while apologising for any disruption to normal movement.
